Other Bundy Carvings | ||
As we work in our carving studio amid piles of logs and tools with ducks in process stacked everywhere, we are sometimes inspired to make something different. Our ideas and dreams of new and different carvings come from many sources. All of us Bundy’s are always watching our local wildlife in our daily lives when we are out hiking or taking a canoe trip on the river or just driving. Sometimes we will observe something that leads to a new creation. John has been known to wake up before daylight and run out in the shop and stay there all day by himself working on some idea he has thought of for a new carving, but most times it is a family group effort. Other times it is the piece of wood that gives us the inspiration. We will be working away and all of a sudden we run across a really unusual block of wood with a unique grain pattern, so we create a carving to show it off. Occasionally we will find a fantastic piece of hardwood and carve it into whatever it will make. We have on occasion, found a tree with beautiful wood that has fallen down in a storm and Jason has salvaged it. When we find one of these rare logs we make whatever we can to preserve the beauty, fancy ducks, gunstocks, and walking sticks. These pieces are so rare and beautiful that we use the smaller pieces to make pens, knife handles, and little ducks. We are always looking for these rare pieces, sometimes it is just one piece of wood, but once in a while we find a whole tree that yields something great. Sometimes we end up with several of these special pieces from one source, other times only one. As we find and carve these new pieces they will be displayed here for you to see. Where do these ideas for new Bundy carvings come from? I guess you could say that like ducks they just hatch. Check in for new carvings as they hatch out, you may find something you like. | ||
